About Rick Recht

Rick Recht Bio.

Rick Recht is the top-touring musician in Jewish music playing over 150 concerts a year in the United States and abroad.  Recht is widely recognized for his appeal to youth and family audiences not only as an exceptional musician, singer/songwriter, and entertainer, but as a role model for involvement in Jewish life. He has become an icon for Jewish youth in the United States, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity among the masses. “We’re lucky because our fan base ranges in age from little kids to adults which allows us to do all kinds of different concerts,” said Recht. “We have the opportunity to constantly change things up and do what it takes to inspire Jewish youth and adults and make them feel connected to each other and their Jewish heritage. The teen rock concerts are sweaty, loud and exciting. The little kids concerts give us a chance to be goofy, but really educational at the same time. The family concerts are a little bit of everything and the Shabbat Alive! services have their own unique, powerfully spiritual feeling. Only in the Jewish world could we experience this wonderful variety of creativity, spirituality, and interaction.”

In addition to his seven top-selling Jewish albums, Recht's 2009 CD release, Simply Shabbat, features an extraordinary collection of original Shabbat melodies that have already become very popular with fans from coast to coast through Recht's Shabbat Alive services over the last two years.  Simply Shabbat appeals to all generations of Rick Recht fans including the new hit versions of L'cha Dodi, Or Chadash, Holy Holy Holy, Oseh Shalom, and Or Zarua. Simply Shabbat is simply Rick Recht at his very best!

Recht is the new musical spokesperson for the Jewish National Fund’s GoNeutral program which allows people to offset their impact on the environment by planting trees in Israel.  Recht has teamed up with JNF to make the world a cleaner, greener place. Audiences throughout the United States attending Recht’s '2009 Rock The Planet Tour’ shows will learn more about how you can GoNeutral and make a difference.

Highlights over the last several years include performances at the NFTY National Convention, BBYO International Convention, URJ Biennial, USY International Convention, CAJE, Hillel Leaders Assembly, NAA Conference, BBYO International Staff Conference, CCAR Conference (Central Conference of American Rabbis), ACC (American Conference of Cantors), and URJ National Preschool Director’s Conference. Recht has become a regular headliner at major national Jewish Festivals in Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Kansas City, and England.  Recht has launched unprecedented tours playing at Jewish day and overnight camps from coast to coast including Ramah, URJ, BBYO, JCC and private camps garnering a feverish following among the national Jewish youth movements unseen in previous years. “The stage is definitely our home,” says Recht. “The energy and voices of the audiences, whether they’re little kids, teens or adults, are indescribable. That’s the magic of Jewish music - the interaction, the singing, the dancing, and the powerful community connection. For me, it’s a dream come true to create and share in this extraordinary environment on a daily basis.”

Recht’s electrifying live performances fueled by Dennis Stringfield on drums and Logan Detering on bass guitar have captured the hearts of a generation of fans discovering the inspiration of contemporary Jewish music. Recht is known for regularly featuring local musicians, choirs, and vocal soloists on stage with the band during his concerts and religious services.  Check out Rick Recht tour dates: (www.rickrecht.com/tour)

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Recht developed a strong Jewish identity attending Traditional Congregation, a conservative synagogue. In high school, Recht joined NFTY, where he was deeply influenced by Jewish music. After graduating USC (Los Angeles, CA) and Music Institute (Hollywood, CA), Recht hit the road touring nationwide from LA to New York playing at clubs, colleges, and amphitheaters. Recht has shared the stage with national acts such as the Guess Who, Chris Rock, America, Supertramp, Three Dog Night, the Samples, Vertical Horizon, Government Mule (Allman Brothers), and many more. After releasing 2 critically acclaimed secular albums, Good Thing and Reality, Recht returned to his Jewish roots with his debut Jewish album, Tov, in the summer of 1999. His shift to Jewish music marks the birth of a unique blend of pop, radio-friendly music with Hebrew, Jewish text, and social responsibility. Recht’s songwriting combined with his trademark high-energy live show has drawn comparisons to acts such as Dave Matthews Band, Indigo Girls, Craig Taubman, and David Broza. He is the Artist in Residence at United Hebrew Congregation in St. Louis, Missouri and enjoys spending time with his wife, Elisa, 7-year-old son, Kobi, and 5-year-old son, Tal.

About Sheldon Low

Sheldon Low is the newest face in Jewish music performing rock concerts, ‘Light Up Shabbat’ services, and leading Artist-in-Residency weekends in Jewish communities throughout the United States.  Low has an undeniable appeal to youth and family audiences, not only as a musician, singer/songwriter, and entertainer, but most importantly, as a Jewish educator and role model.  Check out Sheldon Low Tour Dates.

“I feel really fortunate to be traveling around the country for the past few years where I’ve met some really incredible people who have inspired me to continue to dedicate my life as a Jewish educator and Jewish musician,” said Low. “Hearing the excitement and voices from the audiences, whether they’re younger or older, is exhilarating. Jewish music is truly amazing and like nothing else I’ve experienced.”  Check out Sheldon's WRITTEN BLOG to hear more personal thoughts from Sheldon...

Over the last three summers, Low has been a huge hit with teens performing a national summer tour at dozens of Jewish summer camps throughout the country.  Low has also recently been featured as the headliner and head songleader at various national youth group conventions and Jewish festivals. Low is widely known for his exhilarating live shows where he regularly features local musicians, choirs, and soloists on stage during his concerts and services.

Low’s hit debut album, On One Foot (June ’06), on Independent label, Jewish Rock Records, includes a host of special guest vocalists and musicians including Rick Recht, Beth Schaeffer, Hadar Orshalimy, and a choir of BBYO and NFTY teens.  Low’s sophomore album It’s All Challah to Me (Oct ’07) once again captures his ability to create infectiously fun pop songs, this time for a kid audience.  Low’s brand new release, Light up Shabbat, due for release in fall ’09, features some of Low’s greatest crafted melodic creations to date.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Low is a third generation songleader who from an early age developed a strong Jewish identity attending Solomon Schechter Day School, Camp Ben Frankel, USY, and his synagogue, Brith Sholom Kneseth Israel. Over the years, Sheldon developed a large repertoire and love for Jewish music attending Camp Ben Frankel in Carbondale, IL or as Sheldon calls it, “the singingest camp in the country.” In high school, Low was fortunate to meet and be mentored by nationally touring Jewish artist and owner of Jewish Rock Records, Rick Recht, who continues to deepen Low’s passion for Jewish music and education. After high school, Low earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford, MA.  Nine months after starting work as an engineer, Low was signed to Jewish Rock Records and is currently the Artist in Residence at Barnert Temple in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
